Michael P Nelson

Michael P. Nelson, a lifelong resident of Malden,  passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.  Michael was born in Malden in 1953, the son of William and Carmella Nelson.  He was raised and educated in Malden, graduating from Malden Catholic with the Class of 1971.    He went on to work for the US Post Office as a Mail Handler and Mail Sorter.  He stayed with the post office until his retirement 5 year ago.  Micheal had a great knowledge of sports stats, and loved watching high school baseball and college basketball.  He was also active with the Malden Babe Ruth League as a Coach and Manager of the Knights and Aztecs for many years.

He is survived by his parents, William and Carmella Nelson of Malden, he was the cherished brother of William Nelson of France, Kathleen Nelson of Peabody, Patricia Mooney of Wilmington, Richard Nelson of TX, Robert Nelson of MO, Christine Nelson-Rivers of Melrose, Paul Nelson of Malden, Jeanne Vaillancourt of NH, Daniel Nelson of AZ, and he was “Uncle Pizza” to many nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Nelson.

Funeral services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Wednesday, April 10, at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, 770 Salem St, Malden, at 10 AM.  Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 9th, from 4 – 8 PM.
