Barbara A. (Sotir) Goodwin, a longtime
resident of Malden, passed away in Reading on Thursday, January
10, 2019. Barbara was born in Biddeford, Maine, in 1945, the
daughter of Theodore and Mary Ann Sotir. The family moved to
Boston and in 1963, Barbara graduated from East Boston High
School. She then attended Leslie College and she received her degree
Masters Degree in Human Developmen.. She went on to become a teacher at
Emerson College, where she taught Intercultural Relations.
Later she went on to work as a saleswoman for the Yellow
Pages. Barbara enjoyed traveling, and also volunteered her
time to many organizations, including Rosies Place in Boston,
and Little Brothers in Boston. She was a Communicant at St.
Josephs Church, where she served as a Lector, an Alter Server,
and taught CCD. In 2004, she married her sweetheart, Salvatore
Pucci, and the two settled down together in Malden. They shared
14 years of love and companionship together.
She is survived by her husband Salvatore,
her children, Karen Turner and fiancé James Adler of Mattapan,
Steven Brooks of Lynn, and Christine Skinner-Silverman and
husband Sam of Holden, her step son, James Pucci and wife
Catherine of N. Conway, NH, and her grandchildren, Eva, Jake,
Derrick, and Katie, and her sister in law, Elaine Mallett,
sister in law, Woburn, MA.
Funeral services will be held from the Weir
– MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, on
Tuesday, January 15th, at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass
of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, Malden, at 10:00
Interment will immediately follow in Holy
Cross Cemetery, Malden.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home
on Monday, January 14th, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, in recognition of the
compassionate care Barbara received a the Sawtelle Hospice
House, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to
Middlesex-East Visiting Nurse Hospice, Gift Processing Center,
Burlington, MA 01805.
