John B. Zamagni

1930 - 2021

John B. Zamagni, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Friday, April 2nd, after a brief illness. John was born in Roxbury in 1930, the son of Bruno and Anna Zamagni. He was raised in Roxbury and educated in Roxbury and Charlestown, and after completing his education, John enlisted in the US Navy to help our countries fight in the Korean War. During the war, he served as a “frogman” for the navy. Upon his discharge, he returned to the Boston area, and went to trade school to become an electrician. He retired as a Master Electrician in 1992. John didn’t just work as an electrician, but taught it as well, and was a teacher at the Franklin Institute in Boston for many years.

In 1958, John married his sweetheart, Alice Caffarella, and the two settled down in Malden to raise their family together. They shared nearly 60 years of marriage until Alice’s passing in2017. He was a member of the Eagles in Malden, the Italian American Citizens Club, and the East Side Athletic Association in Malden. He is survived by his children, John E. Zamagni of Woburn, Thomas F. Zamagni of Malden, Lisa A. Zamagni of Everett, and Andrew D. Zamagni of Malden, his brothers, William Zamagni of Norton, Paul Zamagni of Braintree, his sister, Alberta Zamagni of Worcester, and his grandchildren, Douglas, Elizabeth, and Cameron and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, his brother Frederick Zamagni, and his sister, Dorothy Fallon.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Friday, April 9th, 2021 from 9-11AM, followed by a service in the funeral home at 11AM.
