  Olive J. (Cunningham) Whiting of Malden a longtime church organist, passed away on Saturday morning, June 22, 2019 in the Genesis, Wakefield Rehabilitation Center, she was 82. Her loving children were at her side. Olive was born in Boston in October of 1936, the daughter of the late Arthur E. & Mary V. (McHugh) Cunningham.

   Olive would later meet and marry the love of her life Milton K. Whiting. The couple married on June 22, 1958 in St. Theresa’s Church in Everett and settled in Malden and started a family. The couple would later welcome into the family three boys and one girl.

   Olive was a graduate of Boston Teachers College, were she received a Bachelors’ Degree and taught elementary school. She also became an accomplished organist playing in many Catholic Churches in the area. Olive could often be heard playing at the Holy Rosary Church in Winthrop, the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden and Sacred Hearts Parish in Boston. She also played and was involved with the music program at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden. She enjoyed knitting, often making items for family and friends. Olive and Milton often entertained folks at nursing homes. They also composed and played their own music. Olive even found time to become a CPR instructor and EMT. Most important to Olive was her family, her church and her love for music. She was a member of the Catholic Daughter of America, in Everett.

   Olive is survived by her sons, Charles A. Whiting of Malden, Christopher P. Whiting of Everett, Joseph P. Whiting of Malden and her daughter Olive M. Schulze of Billerica. Olive was the cherished grand-mother of six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her loving husband the late Milton K. Whiting, who passed in February of 2018

   Olive’s funeral will be held from the Weir-Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 8:45AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Parish, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10AM.

   Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 25th, 2019 for 4-8 PM. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date
