Eleanor Phyllis (Wormwood) Wells, resident of Peabody,
MA, passed away Sunday at age 92 after a brief illness. She was
a woman of great faith and was surrounded by loved ones at her
time of passing.
Eleanor, the daughter of the late Clayton and Evelyn Wormwood,
was born and raised in Malden, MA, with a brief time of her
childhood spent in Saco and Biddeford, Maine. Eleanor worked at
the historic Schrafft's Candy Factory, was a homemaker, and
became a receptionist at the Veteran’s Home in Chelsea, MA. She
was a member of the First Baptist Church, formerly in Malden, MA
and rooted in her faith and had a deep love for Christ and his
teachings. Eleanor enjoyed reading all genres of books; she
loved to travel, listen to gospel music, and attend Sunday
Services. She was a wonderful baker, dancer, seamstress, and
could play a mean hand of cards at Bridge. Mostly, she deeply
loved her family, fur babies, especially kitties of all breeds,
shapes and sizes, and a piping hot cup of Red Rose tea.
Eleanor married the love of her life, George, in Malden, MA
during 1948, and were blissfully together for 66 years. Shortly
after marriage, they moved to Saugus, MA where they raised their
family and resided until 1993 before becoming residents of
Peabody, MA. Eleanor will be forever remembered by her beloved
daughter Vicki C. Chardo of South Carolina and devoted son
George S. Wells of Peabody, MA, cherished granddaughter
Georgette S. Rahman-Bezio of Tilton, NH, adored great-grandson
Raja P Rahman of Nashua, NH, treasured in-laws and family
members Beverly Barter, Nancy and Ed Lovell, Edward T. Chardo,
Joseph A. Ciaramitaro, James A. Bezio, Abigail L. Bezio, Sheikh
E. Rahman, and countless family and friends who were blessed to
know her. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents Clayton
and Evelyn Wormwood, along with her sisters Murial Bailey,
Patricia Record, and her husband George Wells.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life at the
Weir-MacCuish Family Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, MA for
visitation on Thursday, December 10th from 4PM to 8PM. Funeral
services will be held on Friday, December 11th at 10AM.
Interment will follow in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park,
Peabody, MA.
Contributions in Eleanor’s memory, in lieu of flowers, may be
made to the Northeast Animal Shelter at 347 Highland Ave. Salem,
MA 01970. The family would like to thank the kindness and caring
of the staff at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital ICU Unit and
Palliative Care Unit who made her time of passing with the
dignity and love she so deserved.
