Gillian R. Swart, 64, of Malden
(also of London; St. Lawrence Gap, Barbados; Clio, MI; Flint,
MI; Boston; Newburyport, MA), died unexpectedly on Saturday,
Nov. 18, 2017. A lifelong traveler, writer, and journalist, she
worked for publications including East Village Magazine, the
Newburyport Current, The Boston Globe, and the Malden Observer.
She spent her later years surrounded by family, felines, and her

Fred O. Swart of Gloucester; sisters, Sarah J. Swart (Victor J.
Semensi) of Gloucester and Helen R. Mazarakis (Philip J.
Mazarakis) of Malden; brother, Myron J. Swart of Gloucester;
siblings including Peter, Miller, and Rachel St. John of
Barbados; and David Arthur and Dawn Homann of Barbados; and
nieces and nephews, Michael C. Semensi of San Francisco,
Alexandra C. Mazarakis of Quincy, and James A. Mazarakis of
Malden. She is predeceased by her mother Elizabeth M. (Lanigan)
Swart of Gloucester; birth father Eric St. John of Barbados;
siblings Freddie and Sadie St. John; and niece D. Elizabeth
A Memorial Service will be held
in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St.,
Malden, on Wed., Nov. 22, 2017 at 11AM. Relatives and friends
may call at the funeral home on Tues., Nov. 21st. from 4-8 PM.
