John R. “Bob” Sundquist



John R. “Bob” Sundquist, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19th, in Stoneham. John was born and raised in Worcester, the son of John and Valborg Sundquist. He graduated from Worcester North High School with the Class of 1945. He then enlisted in the US Navy to help our counties country's fight in WWII. After his discharge, he attended Worcester Poly Tech and Wentworth Institute of Technology, and received his degree in Electrical Engineering. He took employment with Bell Labs, and worked with the phone company there until his retirement around 1990.
In 1955, Bob and Elinor I. Healey met in a Swedish class, and were married in 1955 in the Everett Lutheran Church. They soon settled down in Melrose to raise their family. Bob and Elinor shared over 60 years of marriage together. In his spare time, Bob was a ham radio operator, and an avid photographer, and enjoyed photo editing on the computer. In recent years he became quite skilled at photo editing his work with computers. He was also a talented clarinet player.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elinor I. Sundquist, his daughters, Maria E. Sundquist of Medford, Margaret L. Healey of Arlington, and his sister, Birgit Nelson of Mashpee.
Bob was preceded in death by his son John T. Sundquist, and his sister, Betty Ann Sundquist.
A memorial service for Bob will be held at the First Lutheran Church of Malden, 62 Church St, Malden,  on Saturday, Jan 7, 2017 at 11 AM. . Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the First Lutheran Church of Malden, or Geneva Point Center, 108 Geneva Point Rd, Moultonborough, NH 03254.
