Robert Armond Sutherland


January 27, 1938- August 24, 2018


   Robert Armond Sutherland, son of the late Armond Sutherland and Leona Sutherland (Rousseau) was born on January 27, 1938 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He attended public school until joining the Air Force in 1955 at the age of 17. He earned his GED while in the 3657th Training Squadron. He was Honorably Discharged in September of 1957.

   After leaving the Air Force he worked as a Dance Instructor while attending classes at Fitchburg State College and then went on to Cosmetology school in East Boston.

   He opened Bob’s Beauty Salon on Pleasant St in Malden and years later he opened Modern Touch on Exchange St. in 1979. He had a loyal following and enjoyed his work until he retired in 2005.

   When he wasn’t working, he was enjoying his life at his home in Malden with his wife Rosemary Brenda (Correia) (d. 2003) and their children. He was a talented artist and enjoyed a good debate whenever possible.

   He is survived by his children: Ruth Joanne Goodwin of Chelsea, Massachusetts and Robert W. Sutherland of Haverhill, Massachusetts; his grandchildren: Elyse Goodwin of Chelsea, Massachusetts; Jessica Boyd of Hinsdale, New Hampshire; Charlie Sutherland of Norwood, Massachusetts; Victoria Sutherland of Bristol, Rhode Island; and Chelsea and Amanda Sutherland of Medford, Massachusetts. As well as his great-grandchildren: Justin Andrew Goodwin, Halie McKenzie Boyd, Alyssa Margaret Sutherland, Abigail Rose Boyd and Hailey Corrine Sutherland

   He is predeceased by his seven brothers and sisters; Rose Marie DeSalvatore, Joan Alice, Ruth Ann Cox, Joseph Sutherland, Nannette Fields, M. Steven Sutherland and William Sutherland.

   Relatives and friends may call at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 9 -11 11AM. Service will start at 11AM, followed by interment with his wife in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, (Route 1, Southbound side) at 12 noon. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery gates by 12 noon.
