Arthur & Virginia Smith

 

 Arthur B. Smith

  Arthur B. Smith, a retired Manager for Textron, Corporation in Wilmington,  passed away at his residence on Wednesday afternoon after a long illness, with his loving family at his side, he was 88 years old. Arthur was the son of the late Ezra J. & Maria G. (Felix) Smith.

     Arthur was educated in the Malden school system and left high school in his senior year to help the war effort during WWII.  He served with the US Army, 9432d TSU  17th. Sig  Sv Co and attained  the rank of  Corporal.  He was discharged in March of 1949.  He was later recalled and served during the Korean Conflict.

     On November 8, 1958 he married his sweetheart Virginia A. Singer; the couple were married in the Maplewood Baptist Church in Malden and remained  in Malden and started a family.  They later welcomed into the family three loving daughters.  Patricia, Susan and Margaret.  The couple was married for 57 years until Virginia’s passing on March 10, 2016.

     Arthur was a Manager for Textron, in Wilmington for over 25 years and later retired at the age of 70.  Arthur was an avid New England Patriots fan as well as the Red Sox and Celtics. He loved to read a good science fiction novel and was considered a cat lover; he enjoyed all his cats through the years. 

     In his spare time, he loved hiking with his wife Virginia, in the White Mountains of  NH  and would spend his summers with the family in Center Conway, NH. He was devoted to his wife and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandson. Arthur was a member of Toastmaster International of Boston.

     Arthur was the devoted father of Patricia A. Romero and her husband Wilson of Chelsea, Susan M. Coppla of Everett & Margaret E. Hall and her husband Jeff of Boxford. Loving brother of Marjorie Wheaton of   New York.  Brother in-law of  Richard A. Singer of Malden. Cherished grandfather of eight grandchildren,   Elizabeth, Jessica, Sarah, Rachel, Karina, Angelica, Gloria & Wilson and one great-grandchild, Matthew.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Virginia A Smith and his brother in law Raymond Wheaton.

     Funeral services will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Tuesday, October. 11, 2016 at 10AM, followed by interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

     Visiting hours have been omitted. In lieu of flowers contributions in Arthur’s memory may be made to the Hallmark Health VNA & Hospice, Inc., 178 Savin St., Suite 300, Malden, MA 02148.
