Beverly Merle Sandberg

July 2, 1928- March 15, 2018


    Beverly M. (Buchanan) Sandberg of Malden passed away Thursday afternoon at the Eastpointe Nursing Center in Chelsea, she was 89.  Beverly was born in Stoneham and was raised in Malden. She was the daughter of the late Frank E. & Dorothy C. (Dix)  Buchanan.  Beverly was a graduate of Malden High School Class of 1946. In October of 1947 she married her sweetheart, Walter L. Sandberg Jr.,  the couple remained in Malden and started a family.

    Beverly was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Malden for many years and was a member of the Order of the Rainbow of  Malden for many years and had received the Honor of Past Worthy Advisors.

    Beverly’s family of 10 children are made up of 7 girls and 3 boys. Her husband’s work took the family to New York, Pennsylvania & Utah but after each move the family always returned to Massachusetts, finally making it a permanent home in 1961.

    While raising her children she would sew the majority of their clothes from their Sunday best down to the pajamas they wore to bed. Many times you would see all 7 girls wearing similar styles made from the same cloth. She also loved to knit & made many sweaters for her children and grandchildren.

    Her last few years were spent knitting 4 inch squares, that were then sewed together to make amazing afghans that were cherished by all. At times her requests lists for color combinations was quite long.

    In her 89 years not only did she care for her children and husband but was able to hold a few part time jobs. She was always very active in her church participating in things such as Clark Fellowship, Group Y and in the recent past would make a cake every month for the bean supper. She loved spending two weekends a year in Old Orchard Beach, Maine and would enjoy Bailey’s lobster and a trip to Harold’s for sweatshirts.

    Beverly was the loving mother of Diane M. Malone of Acton, Paul K. Sandberg of CA, Donna L. Swales of Tewksbury,  Philip C. Sandberg of Malden, David S. Sandberg of Byfield, Joan Stevens of ME, June Sandberg of Haverhill, Debra C. Sandberg  & Patricia J. Sandberg both of FL and the late Penny S. Rowe-Butyn formerly of PA. Beverly is the cherished grandmother of 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren & 4 great-great-grandchildren.

   Beverly was predeceased by her loving husband Walter L. Sandberg Jr., her brothers Frank E. Buchanan Jr. formerly of VA and William H. Buchanan formerly of NY.

   Funeral service & visiting hours for Beverly will be in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Sunday,  March 18, 2018 from 12 Noon- 4PM. Service will begin at 4PM.

   Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions in Beverly's memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA  02452.
