He also spent his summers in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, at his grandparents while he was growing up.   He enlisted in the US Navy in 1951 at the age of 17, and traveled the world. He served honorably  aboard the USS Missouri, having earned the rank of Seaman 1C.  Upon  his discharge, he returned to the Malden area and soon married his sweetheart, Mary E. He is survived by his children, Mark S. Poore and wife Theresa of Peabody, and Jean Marie Gibbs-Smith and husband Paul of Everett., his sister Ann M. Grover of Melrose, his grandchildren, Justine, Jocelyn, Paul, Kelly, Scott, and Alicia, his great grandchildren,  Jordan, Craig, Carrington, Sydney, Simone, and Gabriel, as well as many nieces and nephews.
