Barbara A. (Murphy) Poirier, a longtime
resident of Malden, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at
the Bear Hill Nursing Care Center in Stoneham. Barbara was born
in East Boston in 1930, one of eight children to Joseph and
Margaret Murphy. She spent most of her childhood growing up in
Boston, and upon completing her education she began working to
help assist the family. She soon married her sweetheart,
George T. Poirier, and before long, the couple settled down in
Malden to raise their family. They shared many wonderful years
together until Georges passing in 1985.
While the children were growing up, Barbara
focused on staying home raising them, but as they got older she
took a job with the city of Malden, working as the “Lunch Lady”
at the Holmes School. She worked at the school until 1983, when
she retired to do what she loved most, spending time with her
She is survived by her children, G. Thomas
Poirier of Lowell, and Laurie Bellefontaine of Dracut, her
sister, Margaret Maggiano of Saugus, her grandchildren, David,
Jade, T.J., Tyler, Michaela, and Julia, and her
great-grandchildren, Grace, Daniel, and Jaxon.
Barbara was preceded in death by her
husband George, her daughter Joyce Poirier, her son Daniel E.
Poirier, and her siblings, Helen Cameron, Joseph Murphy, Francis
Murphy, Ronald Murphy, Richard Murphy, and Janice LeBlanc.
A memorial wake will be held for Barbara at
the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St,
Malden, on Thursday, February 16th, from 7-9 PM.
Barbara will be interred in Forest Dale
Cemetery with her husband privately.
