Philomena Ellis (Martin) age 98, passed away peacefully on
Tuesday November 30th at her home in Melrose.
Philomena was born in Middleboro on September 7th 1923, the
daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Martin) Scalfino and was
raised in East Boston.
Philomena had a passion for cooking and cherished the time spent
together with her family.
Whether it was reminiscing about the “good old days” over tea or
her natural ability to bring the family together, it was always
filled with love and laughter.
Philomena always enjoyed listening to her records and dancing to
Glen Miller, singing along to Dean Martin, Tony Bennet and of
course her favorite Frank Sinatra. “Come Fly With Me.”
Philomena is survived by her children Catherine Beaver of
Melrose, Frances M. Tilley of Peabody, Gloria Pecz of Peabody,
Phillip Tortora of Malden, and Joel Guarino of Revere, she is
also survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1
great-great-grandchild as well as many other family members and
She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Catherine
Scalfino as well as her first husband Leo Tortora and her
second husband George Ellis.
Funeral Services will be held at the Weir Funeral Home Monday
December 6th at 9-12pm with a service at 12pm followed by
interment at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
