 Jack H. Owens

Jack H. Owens, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away suddenly on Oct 7th, in Mattapan.  Jack was born in Kentucky in 1945, the son of Jack and Betty Ann Owens.   He was raised and educated in Kentucky, and after graduating from High School, he enlisted in the US Navy.  His service brought him to the Boston area, where he met his future wife, Reta M. Hatch.   Upon his discharge, he reenlisted into the Army Reserves, where he served until 2001, and was called up several times into active duty and had achieved the rank of Sergeant Major.    He went on to become a Transportation Specialist for several companies over the years, most notably with Riser Corporation.   Upon leaving the company, instead of retiring, he began working part time for the Veterans Administration, assisting people with sober living in Somerville.  In his spare time, he enjoyed reading up on military history, and visiting historic sites.

He is survived by his son, Jack H. Owens III and wife AnnMarie of Methuen, , and his grandchildren, Brendan and Tyler.
