A. Nickerson, a lifelong resident of Malden, lovingly cared for
by Daughter in law Pamela and son Ronald, and other family
members, passed away with his
brother Ronald by his side on Wednesday , July 20, 2016 at the
Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Roy was born on
Bainbridge Street in Malden in 1927, the son of J. Roy and
Jeannie Nickerson. He grew up in Malden and graduated from
Malden High School with the Class of 1945. He then joined the
US Navy to help our countries fight in WWII.
Upon his discharge, he returned to Malden,
and worked various jobs before joining the Malden Fire
Department in 1951. He worked his way through the ranks in the
department, until becoming the Fire Chief. He retired as Chief
in 1988, after over 36 years with the department. Roy had
married his sweetheart, Florence Mosher, after returning from
the war, and the two settled down together to raise their
family. Sadly, Florence passed away in 1981, after over 30 year
of marriage. Roy did find love again though, and later married
Delores Nickerson. They enjoyed playing golf
and traveling to Florida together. As Roys health declined
Dee cared for him in their home as long as she was able. They
shared nearly 35 years of marriage together. Roy was a member of the Malden VFW Post
639, and past member of the Malden Rotary. He was also a past
member of the First Baptist Church of Malden, and had attended
the Maplewood Baptist Church. Roy was an avid golfer, and was
also a skilled woodworker and furniture maker. His wife Dee
thanks all for their love and support, and regrets that her
health prevents her from joining them at services, as she had
moved to Montana where her daughter could care for her, and is
unable to travel.
He is survived by his wife Delores “Dee”
Nickerson, his children, Ronald A. Nickerson of Malden, Jean E.
Harrison of Florida,.. his step-children Sandra Hough of MT,
Brian Branon of Malden, his brother Ronald Nickerson of NY, his
10 grand children and his 10 great grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his first wife
Florence (Mosher), his son Roy A, Nickerson Jr and, and his step sons Wayne E. Scappace and William L.
Branon, his brother, David Nickerson, and his grandson Jacob.
