 Sheldon M. Newson

1930 - 2017

Sheldon M. Newson, of Lynnfield, former long time resident of Malden, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in Melrose. Sheldon was born in Boston in 1930, the son of Sheldon and Anna Newson. He was raised and educated in Malden, graduating from Malden High School with the Class of 1948. After high school, he attended Wentworth Institute of Technology. His studies were interrupted by the Korean War, as he was inducted in the US Marine Corps. He served honorably until 1954, when he was discharged and returned to Malden. He completed his studies, and over the years also took many courses on civil engineering. Shelden became a union laborer, joining Local 22 out of Dorchester. He was a proud union member and even after retiring, continued to be an active member of the union.

In 1960, Sheldon married his sweetheart Elizabeth Doherty, and the two settled down in Malden to raise their family. They shared nearly 40 years together until Elizabeth’s passing in 1997. Sheldon was fortunate to find love and companionship again, after meeting Millie Pasquale. The two were loving companions for the last 17 years.
Sheldon was a longtime active member of the Maplewood Baptist Church in Malden, where he served as a past Deacon, and participated in the “Golden Oldies” club within the Church. He enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises and spending time with family. He was also an avid golfer, typically at Cedar Glen on opening day every year and 5 days a week after that, always walking the course, never in a golf cart.

He is survived by his long time loving companion, Millie Pasquale, his children, Laurel Newson of Chelsea, James Newson and wife Paola of Melrose, and Sandra Newson and wife Denise Hueso of Miami, Fl, his grandchildren, Michael, Samantha, Jansil, Elizabeth, and Jayanna, his great grandson, William, as well as Mary, Denis, Paul, Michael, Rebecca, Aidan and Sara who held a very special place in his heart.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sheldon was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth.
Funeral Services will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Friday, Apr 14th, at 12 noon, with Visitation from 10-12. Interment will be private.

Donations in Sheldon's memory may be made to:  The Pink Angels, Inc. 26 Nells Pond Road Lynn, MA 01904
