Donald "Don" McLennan
December 12, 1932-September 7, 2018
McLennan of Laconia, NH, formerly of Malden & Stoneham, passed
away Friday afternoon, September 7, 2018 in the Golden View
Health Care Center, in Meredith, NH after a short illness, he
was 85. Don was born on December 22, 1932 in Malden, one of
four sons of William A. & Myrtle L. (Battershall) McLennan.
Don was raised in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High
School Class of 1951. He was a member of the Malden High School
Football team, the Golden Tornado’s. In 1948 the football team
had a winning year, and all players went on to the Florida
Gator Bowl. The Golden Tornados won that bowl game.
In February of 1953 Donald joined the U.S. Army and served
during the Korean Conflict. He was later discharged in January
of 1955 as a Private First Class. Don would later meet and marry
the love of his life, Avis M. Schulze. The couple married on
August 25, 1957 in the First Baptist Church in Malden. Don &
Avis were married for over 61 years and just celebrated their
wedding anniversary a few weeks ago. Don was a self-employed
and owner of the Don McLennan Painting and Wallpapering Company, working out of
the Stoneham area. Don worked at his trade
for many years and would later retire in 2007 and settled in
Laconia, NH with his wife Avis.
Donald was a longtime member of the Melrose VFW. In his spare
time Donald enjoyed a good round of golf or watching the
Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox games. He was also an avid bowler
and a member of the Fun Spot Seniors Bowling League in Laconia.
Donald is survived by his loving wife Avis M. McLennan, his late
brother’s spouses, Joan McLennan of Malden & Bernice McLennan of
Melrose. He was the cherished uncle to many dear and loving
nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews & great- great nieces &
He was predeceased by his three brothers, and sister in-law
William McLennan and his wife Dolores, Herbert E. McLennan &
Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the Weir-MacCuish
Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, on Wednesday,
September 12, 2018 from 10:45AM-12Noon. Funeral service will be
held in the funeral home at 12 noon.
