 John R. McKinnon

 

John R. McKinnon, of Revere, formerly of Malden, passed away on Friday, June 17th,  at his home with loving family by his side.    John was born in Malden in in 1937, the son of John and Flora McKinnon.  He was raised in Malden,  after completing his education,  he enlisted in the US Army.   He served during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1957.  After his discharge he returned the moved to Ohio, where he studied automotive repair.  At the time of his father’s passing, he returned to the Malden area, and in 1960, he  married Helen Strong, and the two settled down in Malden where they raised their family.  They lived together in Malden until 1999, then moved to Revere.  He began working at ITT Technical Institute teaching automotive repair.  He then opened his own repair shop, Johns Automotive, on the corner of Summer and Pleasant St  in Malden.    When that building was raised to put up a high rise ,  John had began working as a Toll Collector for the State of Massachusetts,  and retired in 2003.  He was a member of the American Legion of Revere, the Loyal Order of Moose,  Revere,  and the 100 Club.  He also served as a Deputy Sherriff for Middlesex County, and was a member of the Malden Planning Board.   

He is survived by his wife Helen, his children, Brenda Page of Revere, John McKinnon and wife Lisa of Billerica, Pamela McKinnon of Revere, and James McKinnon and wife Michelle of Derry, NH, his sister,  of Florence Monsen of ID, his grandchildren Charles and girlfriend, Michaela, Kodie and boyfriend, Joshua, Antonia, Ashley, and Jillian, and his great-grandchild,  Jeremy.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Jody P. Nolan, his parents, and his sister,  Florellen Daniels.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23rd, at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden  from 4-8 PM, with a prayer service at 7PM.   Committal will be private.

Donations in Johns memory may be made to Hallmark Health Hospice, 178 Savin St, Malden, 02148.
