Lawrie Joseph McGinnis

December 10, 1945 - October 19, 2016

   Lawrie J. McGinnis, of Charlestown, a professional mover and owner of L.A.N. Electronic Moving Specialists of Reading,   passed away Wednesday evening, on his boat in the Charlestown Pier, with his longtime companion Betty Lindsey at his side, he was 70 years old.  Larry was born in Boston, the son of the late James F. & Isabelle (Redding) McGinnis.

    Lawrie was raised in Melrose, educated in the Melrose school system and was a graduate of Melrose High School Class of 1966.  In July of 1966 he joined the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam conflict. He served for the next three years as a Radio Operator and attained the Rank of SP/4. He was discharged in May of 1968.

    Lawrie returned home from the Army and took employment with several local furniture moving companies in the area. He later started his own Trucking and moving business, L.A.N. Electronic Moving Specialists formerly of Reading and would later worked with his son Larry.  They mostly moved large copy machines, machinery and safes. He ran the business for the next forty years, until his retirement.

    Lawrie loved to explore the Orient, he enjoyed  traveling to Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bali and Japan.  He also loved tuna fishing.  Larry was a member of the Somerville City Club in Somerville and the Mass Rifle Association of Woburn.           

    Lawrie is survived by his, longtime companion, Betty Lindsey of Charlestown. Devoted father of Lawrence J. McGinnis Jr. of Methuen and Renee C. McGinnis of RI. Loving grandfather of L. J. McGinnis III, Tasha, Michael, Michaela Elmore and Rachel Montague-Rand.

He was predeceased by his sister Una Dawson formerly of Melrose.

    Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral, 144 Salem St., Malden on Wed., Oct. 26, 2016 from 4-8 PM. All other services will be private.
