Joan M. Jones

1935 - 2017



Joan M. (Campbell) Jones, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Tuesday, July 4th, with her loving family by her side. Joan was born in Springfield in 1935, the daughter of Claude and Mina Campbell. She was raised in West Springfield and graduated from High School there with the Class of 1954. She then attended the Whidden Hospital Nursing School, and received her degree in Nursing. She ended up working as a nurse at Whidden Hospital for over 30 years, retiring in 1992.
In February of 1958, Joan married her sweetheart, Warren Jones, in the First Baptist Church of Melrose. Joan and Warren soon settled down in Malden, and eventually bought the home they would raise their children and live throughout their years. Joan and Warren shared over 43 years together until his passing in 2001.

Joan was a longtime active member of the Forestdale Community Church in Malden. She regularly sang with the choir, and was a member of the “Willing Helpers”. She and Warren enjoyed vacationing in Nova Scotia where her family was from, she loved to garden and loved her Siamese cats.

She is survived by her children, Ruth E. Gillis and husband Archie of Tewksbury, and Bruce C. Jones and wife Susan of Malden., her grandchildren, Megan, Alexander, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Katelyn and Mary, and her great grandchildren, Brodie, Julian, and Bradley.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Jones. Funeral services will be held at the Forestdale Community Church, 235 Forest St, Malden, on Mon, July 10th, at 10 AM. Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. Visitation will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, on Sun, July 9th, from 4 – 8 PM.
