Wendell P. Haskell

1929-2019

 

 

   Wendell P. Haskell of Malden, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019, in Melrose, he was 89.  Wendell was one of five sons of the late Chester & Gertrude (Crawford) Haskell. He was born in Revere, and lived most of his life in Malden.

   He attended Malden Schools and was a graduate of Malden High School Class of 1947. In high school Wendell excelled in football, baseball and his #1 sport, hockey.  Wendell was an outstanding goalie at Malden High School. He was the team’s goalie  in 1947 and  later when he attended Bridgton Academy. He was an avid Boston sports fan, but Bruins hockey was his passion.

   After his schooling he would meet and later marry the love of his life, Betty M. Jewell. The couple married in Malden in 1951 and started a family. They would welcome into the family two daughters, Barbara & Judy and two sons Peter & James. The couple shared 68 years of marriage together.

   Wendell was the former Salesman/President of W. P. Haskell Plumbing & Heating Supply Company, a well-known wholesaler in Bedford area years ago. He was a very active and longtime dedicated member of the Forestdale Community Church in Malden. He sat on the Forest Dale Cemetery Board of Directors and served as President.

   In his spare time he enjoyed all type of sports and enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner with the Wyoming Lodge in Melrose.

   Wendell is survived by his beloved wife Betty M. Haskell. He was the devoted father of Peter W. Haskell and his wife Susan of Wakefield, Judy A. Gilligan and her husband Steven of Melrose & Seabrook, NH, James A. Haskell and his with Susan of Tewksbury. His was the brother in-law of Dana I. Jewell of Malden & Anne and Ethel Haskell. Cherished grandfather of six, great-grand-father of twelve and great-great-grandfather of three.

   He was predeceased by his cherished daughter Barbara D. Tamasi formerly of Jupiter, FL. His loving brother Weston Haskell and his late wife Constance, Donald Haskell and his late wife Virginia and the late Kenneth & John Haskell.

   Relatives and friends may call at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Friday, February 22, 2019 from 3-7 PM.

   Wendell’s funeral service will be held in the Forestdale Community Church, 235 Forest St., Malden, on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11AM.  

Entombment in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden on Monday will be private.

   In lieu of flowers contributions in Wendell’s memory may be made to the Forestdale Community Church, 235 Forest St., Malden, MA 02148.
