James “Jimmy” Gillis

1950 - 2017


James “Jimmy” Gillis, a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away on August 11, 2017 in his home with his loving family by his side. Jimmy was born in Malden in 1950, the son of John and Mildred Gillis. He was raised and educated in Malden. He went on to become a plumber, working both independently and then for the Malden Housing Authority, where he was a plumber for nearly 30 years. He also worked part time as a bartender, for the Salemwood Grille and the East Side AA. While a long time member of the East Side, he also was a past member of their Board of Directors. Jimmy was also fond of horses, and once owned a Trotter Horse than he actively harness raced. In addition, he was an avid fan of all of the Boston sports teams.
He is survived by his children, Darci M. Walcott and husband Jovan of Malden, Nicole Gallagher and husband Kevin of Saugus, Daniel J. Gillis and girlfriend Christy Rua of Malden, and his step-children of Gina Ortiz of Malden, James Dingivan of NH, Dion Bottiggi of Dracut, and Tammy Dow of Malden, his siblings, Elaine F. Piselli of Newton, Richard Gillis of Reading, Norma Riley of Reading, Joan M. Kravit of Reading, his grandchildren, Makayla, Janaya, Jovan, Alanna, Zianna, Brendan, Cheyenne, Paige, Patrick, Michael, Dion, Isabella, Deryk, and Jacqueline, and his great grandson, Liam.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife Jeannette (Croken) Gillis, his former wife, and dear friend, Patricia Paris. and his brother, Robert E. Gillis.

Funeral services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden, on Wed, Aug 16th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, 770 Salem ST, Malden at 10AM. Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tues, Aug 15th, from 4 – 8 PM
