Carl Wallace Freeman

    1932- 2019

                                   Carl W. Freeman was the second child of five born to the late

                                   Lucille (Saunders) Freeman and Kerlin Freeman Sr., in Chelsea, MA.

                                   Carl was  educated in the Chelsea Public School system. After graduating

                                   from  high school he joined the Air Force in the early 1950s where he held the

                                   Rank of Staff Sergeant and served for 10 years.

                                   Carl married Elizabeth Davis Howard on November 26, 1956 and in this union

                                   raised  6 children, Dorian, Michelle, Rosalind, Paul, Gary (d), and Cheryl.

                                   Carl’s career included positions as a Director at OIC in Roxbury MA, a mail

                                   handler  for the US Postal Service, Investigator for cases of discrimination at

                                   colleges and universities for the Department of Education, security guard at the

                                   Four Seasons; real estate broker, and taxi cab driver. He was also a lobbyist

                                   during  the Civil Rights movement. Carl had many hobbies including bowling,

                                   reading  mystery novels, coin collecting, traveling, watching westerns, visiting

                                   casinos  and joking. He will be remembered for his boisterous laugh!

                                   Carl was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Malden for over 50 years

                                   where he served as a Deacon, Usher, Building Leader, and a Sunday School

                                   teacher. Carl was an avid Boston sports fan as evidenced by his large collection

                                   of  team hats!

                                  Carl was a family man and presided over many holiday dinners. He generously

                                  Assisted  many family members during times of need. He was a great role model,

                                  serving as father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend. People looked

                                  up to him as an advisor when they were struggling with life obstacles. Because

                                  of  his great wisdom and welcoming spirit, people often sought out his advice.

                                  As a loving and devoted husband, Carl was the dedicated and sole caregiver for

                                  his wife Elizabeth during the end of their sixty year marriage and honored his

                                  “till death do us part” vows.

                                 God called Carl home on July 2, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents

                                   Lucille and Kerlin Freeman Sr., brother Eugene (Natalie) Freeman, sisters

                                  Claudette Hairston and Loretta Freeman, and son Gary Lee. He leaves to

                                  cherish his memories brother Kerlin (Ray) Freeman Jr, children Dorian Howard Sr.,

                                  Michelle Lee, Rosalind Lee, Paul (Margaret) Lee, Cheryl (Russell) Logan;

                                  grandchildren Dorian Howard Jr., Kevin Howard, Melissa Howard, Shawna

                                  Bradley, Margaret Lee, Kendall Logan, Cameron Logan, and Francis Lee;

                                  5 great –grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

                                  Funeral service for Carl will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule

                                  Funeral Home,  144 Salem St., Malden, on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 12 noon.

                                  Visiting hours will be 2 hours prior to the service from 10AM-12 noon.

                                  Interment to follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
