Frank W. Fitzgerald Jr.

1932 - 2017


Frank W. Fitzgerald, Jr. passed away Friday, Oct. 20th after a lengthy illness. Born in Malden in 1932, the son of Deputy Fire Chief Francis W. and Cora L. Fitzgerald. Graduate of Malden High Class of 1949, Franklin Institute of Electrical Engineering. Joined the Army in 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He then graduated from Boston University, College of Business Administration in 1959. He joined the  Malden Fire Dept. in 1958 and then became Malden's Fire Chief and retired in 1994. He was a past President of the Malden Historical Society, the Bay State Post Card Collectors Club and the Box 52 Association in Boston. He was also a member of the Boston Sparks Assn, the Malden Fire Fighters Relief Assn, Boston Fire Museum, Mass. Institute of Fire Dept. Instructors, New England Assn of Fire Chiefs, Mass. Fire Chiefs Assn, International Assn. of Fire Chiefs, and the Malden VFW Post 639.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy A. Fitzgerald, and sister, Lois Miara of Winchester, as well as many nieces and nephews and a good friend to him, Tom Curtis. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Stoneham Fire Chief, Charles E. Fitzgerald.

Funeral services from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Thursday, October 26 at 7:45 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Marys of the Assumption Church, 660 Washington Ave., Revere at 9AM. Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wed., Oct. 25 from 5-8 PM. Donations in Frank's memory may be made to the Firefighters Relief Association, 1 Sprague St., Malden, MA 02148.
