George R. Fowler

1924 - 2019

George R. Fowler, a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away on Thursday, November 14th,  after a lengthy illness.  George was born in Malden in 1924, the son of Alton and Marion Fowler.   He was raised in Malden, and after completing his education he enlisted in the National Guard.   Over the years, George often worked 2 jobs, he was a cook at the Miss Malden Diner and at Steves Diner, he was a machinist at Boston-Rockport Machine, drove for the Malden Cab Company, and was a Security Guard in Wakefield.  Outside of work, he enjoyed dancing and visiting Suffolk Downs, and was very particular about his car, spending hours cleaning and polishing it.

In 1956, George married his sweetheart, Shirley O’Brien in New Hampshire.  The two settled down together in Malden to raise their family.  They shared over 63 years of marriage together.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, and his grandson Fredrick G. Hutchins.

George was preceded in death by his daughter, Marion D. Fowler, and his brothers, Kenneth Fowler and Al Fowler.

Visitation for George will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Wed, Nov 20th, from 6-8 PM.

Family and friends are invited to meet at the funeral home on Thursday, Nov 21st, at 10 AM for an 11 AM graveside service in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
