Gloria I. "Glo" Follis

April 17, 1935- May 2, 2018

 

   Gloria I. “Glo” (Chiereghio) Follis, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 2, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, she was 83. Gloria was born in Somerville in 1935, the daughter of Mario and Susan (Di Lello) Chiereghio. She was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School with the Class of 1953. In that year she met her future husband, James F. Follis, at a high school dance. The two were married in September of 1956, and first settled down in Chelsea and raised their family, before relocating to Malden almost 50 years ago.

   Gloria worked for many years for the Boston Safe Deposit & Trust Bank in Malden; she worked in the returns department, until she retired in 1992. In her spare time, Gloria enjoyed playing cards, traveling with her husband Jim and family, as well as watching the New England Patriots. She also loved to go shopping as well as the occasional trot down to the gambling halls. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Abington VFW, the Ladies Auxiliary of the DAV Post #85 of Malden, and was a Past State Commander of the Ladies Auxiliary of Massachusetts.

   She is survived by her husband, James F. Follis of Malden, her children, James J. “Jimmy” Follis of Malden, Stephen M. Follis of Lynn, Deanna G. Follis of Billerica, and Marilyn Nolan of Billerica, her aunt, Lena Di Lucia of Somerville, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

   Funeral services will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 10 AM.

Interment to follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2PM.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 3 – 7 PM.

   In lieu of flowers, the family has asked contributions in Gloria’s memory be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
