Richard E. “Dick” Fratus
Richard E. “Dick” Fratus, a longtime resident of Malden, passed
away Wednesday evening with his family by his side. He was 79.
Dick was born and raised in Malden and was the son of the late
Russell & Beatrice (Bent) Fratus.
Dick joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the
Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Korea & Japan. He attained
the rank of Airman 3rd Class and was later discharged
in April of 1962.
Dick would met and later marry the love of his life, Dianne L.
Melendy. They were married on May 9, 1964 and would spend the
next 52 years together. In 1970 the couple would welcome into
the family their son, Michael J. Fratus. Dick was known as a
great dad to his loving son Mike.
Dick was employed with the Hewitt Packard Industries in Andover
as a machinist, for thirty-seven years and retired in 1999.
Dick was the kind of guy that was always working. He continued
working even after his retirement, never one to sit still.
In his retirement Dick enjoyed taking cruises & traveling with
his wife Dianne. The couple loved taking long walks on Revere
beach & Salisbury beach, in New Hampshire. There they met and
joined some new friends that also enjoyed walks, they considered
themselves the beach bums. Dick also enjoyed spending time on
Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire with his family & friends.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Dianne L. Fratus. He was
the devoted father of Michael J. Fratus of Malden. Loving
brother of Thomas Fratus and wife Brenda, David Fratus and
wife Pamela all of CA, Janet Phippes and husband Richard
of NE, brother –in-law of Janice & Kenneth Perry of Lowell
and Ruth Fratus of Wakefield. Dick was also survived by several
loving nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Russell Fratus formerly
Funeral services will be held in the Weir-MacCuish
Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Monday,
November. 21, 2016 at 11AM.
Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday
November. 20th. from 3-7 PM.
