1932 - July 11, 2017
Dortona died July 11, 2017, after battling cancer. He was born
on August 31, 1932 in Revere, MA to Dominic and Rose D’Ortona
and was raised in Malden, MA.
from Malden High School, Don joined the United States Air Force
and served in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he
came home and met the love of his life, Sandra “Sandie” Benner.
They were married in 1958 and had three sons: David (married to
Kelly) of Salem, NH, Gary (married to Gina) of Hollis, NH and
Chris (married to Cheryl) of Revere, MA. He was the devoted Papa
to Nicky, Danny, Tailor, Donnie, Bobby, Matthew, Gracie, Mark,
Annemarie, Adam and Jason. He is also survived by his sister,
Joyce (D’Ortona) and her husband Harry Fleischer, his
brother-in-law, Al Young and numerous nieces, nephews and
Don was a union
carpenter and he and Sandie built a successful real estate
company buying, renovating and managing multi-family homes and
apartment buildings in the Malden area, NH and even FL. He could
always be counted on to coach one of his sons’ various teams
when they were young. More recently, he loved attending and
cheering on his grandchildren in their many activities. When he
wasn’t working, Don was a devout follower of the Boston Red Sox
and New England Patriots and watched every game he could.

were an inseparable couple that enjoyed their active winters in
Hollywood Beach, FL walking along the Broadwalk and playing golf
with friends. They spent the remaining months of the year
between Cobbetts Pond in Windham, NH and the Malden area. They
cherished their family gatherings at the lake and their nights
out dancing with “the keys” in both MA and FL. Sandie will miss
Don beyond words.
In lieu of
flowers, the family requests that donations be made by mail in
Don’s name to Brookhaven Hospice of NH via the Community
Hospices of America Foundation at: CHA Foundation, 500 Faulconer
Drive, Suite 200 Charlottesville, VA 22903.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting
hours on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 4-7PM in the Weir-MacCuish
Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 in the
Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main St., Malden, at 11AM. Friends and
relatives are asked to go directly to church by 11AM.
