Dorothy A. DeYoung
1935 - 2019
Dorothy A. (Chicoler) DeYoung, a longtime resident of Malden,
passed away on Tuesday, April 11. Dorothy was born in Somerville
in 1935, the daughter of Leo and Alice Chicoler. She was raised
in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School with the
Class of 1953. After high school, she married Henry Maciel.
Although the marriage did not last, she was blessed with her two
sons, Joseph and John, and later moved to Charlestown. Dorothy
later found love and companionship again, and married Arthur J.
DeYoung. The two settled down in Malden, sharing 35 years of
marriage until Arthur’s passing in 2013.
Dorothy had worked for the Cambridge Medical Supply Company. She
was with the company for over 30 years, and was the office
manager when she retired at the age of 65. She enjoyed
gardening, and treasured spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph W. Maciel of Beverly, and
John J. Maciel of Westford, her grandchildren, Kevin, James,
Krisslyn, Joseph, and Savannah, and her former husband, Henry
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, and her
sister, Josephine Shields.
Funeral services will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule
Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Tues, April 16th, 2019 at
Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
