Paul F. DeHetre

1944 - 2019

 

 

Paul F. DeHetre, a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away on Sunday, March 3rd, with his loving family by his side. Paul was born in Malden in 1944, the son of Ernest and Alma DeHetre. He was raised in Malden, graduating from the Malden Vocational School with the Class of 1962. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, first serving with the U.S. Naval Reserves before getting called into active duty. Paul served 6 years in the Navy before being honorably discharged. In May of 1964, while on leave, Paul married his sweetheart, Karen S. Young, in Malden where the two of them settled down and began raising their family. When Paul was discharged, he began working at the Broadway Glass Company. In 1968, he purchased the business and ran it for over 50 years only having recently retired. Paul also enjoyed regular dinners out with a group of Malden friends that called themselves the "Romeo's"  (Real Old Men that Eat Out Often). 

He is survived by his wife, Karen, his children, Paul A. DeHetre and wife Isabelle from Londonderry, NH, Wayne M. DeHetre from FL, Selina M. Ingersoll and husband David from Saugus, and Belinda J. DeHetre of Chelsea, his brothers, Charles DeHetre of SC, and Arthur DeHetre of Byfield, his grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband Mateusz, P.J., Courtney, Keagan, and Patrick, and his great grandchildren, Isabella and Lucas.

Paul was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley DeVlaminck and Yvonne Basile.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 9th, at the Weir – MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden at 10 AM. . Interment to follow in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 8th, from 4 – 8 PM.

Donations in Paul's memory may be made to Mass General Hospital Cancer Center
