Maxine M. DeCristofaro

1921 - 2019

Maxine M. DeCristofaro, a longtime resident of Medford, passed away on Friday, November 15, in Wakefield at the age of 98. Maxine was born in Maine in 1921, the daughter of Ernest and Iva Swett. After spending much of her childhood in Maine, she moved to the Boston area at the age of 15. In 1943, she married her sweetheart, Marzio DeCristofaro, and the two settled down in Medford to raise their family. They shared almost 35 years of marriage together until Marzio's passing in 1979.

Maxine started her career at the Howard Johnson’s in Medford, was hostess at the Woodland Golf Club in Newton, and waitressed at the Continental, the Red Coach Grill and Augustine’s.

Maxine was a loyal Boston Red Sox fan hardly ever missing a game. She enjoyed playing BINGO, crocheting, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She especially loved hearing about her great grandchildren’s adventures. Her family was her pride and joy.

She is survived by her son Charles DeCristofaro and partner Laneta Newman of SC, her sisters Gloria Rousay of FL and Lorraine Wright of CT, her grandchildren, Kim Magill and husband Ken, Donna Beams and husband Frank, Debra DeCristofaro, and James Rowe and wife Alexis, as well as 8 great- grandchildren.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Marzio, her daughter Jean Lorna Rowe, and her siblings, Jennings Swett, Vinal Swett, Graden Swett, Albina Swett, Lawrence Swett, Lionel Swett, Bertram Swett, Jean Luther, Etta Snyder, and Harris Swett.

A memorial service for Maxine will be held on Saturday, November 30th, at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden, at 11 AM, with visitation beginning at 9 AM.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Maxine‘s daughter, Jean Lorna Rowe.
