 Voltaire M. D’Amaral

1936 - 2020


Voltaire M. D’Amaral,  a longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020, in Melrose.  Voltaire was born in Cambridge in 1936, the son of Antonio and Marion D’Amaral.  He was raised and educated in Somerville.  In 1955, Voltaire married his sweetheart, Rita Ann Donahue, and the two settled down to raise their family.  The moved to Malden a few years later where they remained. Voltaire and Rita shared over 50 years together until her passing in 2006.   Voltaire had worked as an engraver, most notably at Pasetti Engraving in Reading, where they engraved everything from trophys to automobile dashboards.  He also served in the US Army National Guard for many years.    In his spare time, Voltaire enjoyed camping and fishing at Epson Lake in New Hampshire.

He is survived by his children, Michael J. D’Amaral of Portugal, William V. D’Amaral of Florida, and  Richard A. D’Amaral of Everett, his brothers of Somerville, Fernando D’Amaral of Somerville, and Anthony D’Amaral of Brocton, his sister, Barbara Cusack of Melrose, his grandchildren, William, Kelly, Heather, Anthony, Megan, Jeanine, Jessica, and Jason, as well as 5 great grandchildren.

Voltaire was preceded in death by his wife Rita, his daughters Diana M. Thibert and Brenda D’Amaral, his sister Rosie Butler, his brother, Edward D’Amaral,  and his grandson Daniel.

Funeral services will be held graveside at the Puritan Lawn Cemetery, 185 Lake St, Peabody, on Tuesday, September 15th, at 9  Am.
