John R. Cruikshank Jr.


   John R. Cruikshank Jr. of  Malden, formerly of  Everett, passed peacefully at home, Friday evening May 5, 2017, he was 63.  Born in Everett, on April 14, 1954 he was the son of the late John Raymond Sr. & Barbara Lorraine (Ryder) Cruikshank. John was educated in the Everett school system and later moved to Malden. He was a graduate of Malden High School Class of 1972.

   John worked in construction and later apprenticed as a carpenter. He joined the Carpenters Local # 218 of Medford, MA.  He worked for over eight years on the Big Dig, doing form work to set columns on the northern end of the tunnel and connecting  bridges and columns on the Zakim Bridge.  At times he was the foreman on parts of the job. He also worked on the Hyatt Harbor Side project and other jobs in the Boston area.

   John loved playing softball with the menís league in Malden. He coached Malden Youth Hockey and his team was the first Malden team to win the district.

   He was an avid Boston sport fan and fisherman, and enjoyed a good golf game. John also loved and collected movies. He mostly enjoyed his time with his golden retriever, Busta.

   John & Priscilla met in 1981 and were married in 1983 at the Singing Beach, Manchester by the Sea. The couple was married for 33 years until Johnís passing.

   He was a 30 year member and bartender of the Malden Aerie No 893 Fraternal Order of the Eagles and member of the Irish American Association in Malden.

   John is survived by his loving wife Priscilla R. (Johnson) Cruikshank. Devoted father of Colin Cruikshank and his wife Noelle of NC, Trevor Cruikshank and his wife Stephanie of Somerville, John Cruikshank III and his wife Meghan of Melrose and Kimberly Anne Cruikshank of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of  Logan  Dennis Cruikshank.  John was the loving brother of Glenn Cruikshank and his wife Patricia of Brookline, NH, Dana Cruikshank and his wife Susan of Beverly.

John is predeceased by his brother Dennis Cruikshank formerly of Beverly.

   Funeral services will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 10 AM.

Interment in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, May 8, 2017  from 4-8 PM.

   In lieu of flowers contributions in Johnís memory may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA  01923
