 Craig R. Ballarino

1967 - 2021

Craig R. Ballarino—all-star athlete and jack-of-all-trades— passed away in Lynn, MA, on July 20th, 2021 at the age of 54. Anyone who really knew Craig knew that he had at least nine lives, and his sudden but peaceful passing in the arms of his beloved wife, Elaine, was an unexpectedly tranquil end for a man who led such an eventful life. Born in Malden, Massachusetts on January 24 th , 1967, Craig and his sister Holly spent\ their childhoods together playing baseball, looking for bugs and frogs, riding bikes, and getting dirty playing matchbox cars in the backyards of their Wilmington, MA neighborhood friends. In 1976 Craig moved with his family to Galveston, TX, where he made regular appearances in the Galveston Daily News for his triumphs in football, baseball, basketball, and soccer. During this period, Craig was also “blessed” with two
more sisters, Meghan and Emily, who wouldn’t know the thrill of riding a motorcycle without a helmet if it weren’t for their big brother. Craig returned to Massachusetts and graduated from Malden High School in 1986. He went on to attend a trade school
for welding, becoming a sheet metal worker and working most recently at McCusker-Gill. In 1994, Craig began a new, motorcycle-less chapter of his life when his son, Ryan Thomas Shaw was born. Ryan will always be Craig’s pride and joy. Craig marveled at Ryan’s academic achievements and bright future, joking that it never made any sense that he could have a son who ended up being so smart and such a good kid. Anyone who really knew Craig also pretty much knew he would never get married. Elaine, the love of Craig’s life, proved us all wrong. Craig and Elaine met 25 years ago, married in 2016, and traveled together across the lowest valleys and highest peaks until the very end. In his free time, Craig enjoyed the company of his dog and best friend Buddy, hanging out at the Eastside Athletic Association, grilling at barbeques, and spending time with Ryan, Elaine, and all of the family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Craig is survived by his wife Elaine (Comeau) Ballarino of Lynn, MA; his son Ryan Shaw of Waltham, MA; his sisters Holly Ballarino, Emily Eckner and Meghan Eckner; his mother Jean Eckner; as well as many other family members and friends.
Craig was predeceased by his father Thomas Ballarino and beloved dog, Rocket. Funeral Services for Craig will be held at the Weir – MacCuish Funeral Home on Monday July 26th from 2-6 pm.
