Bruce J. Cairney

Nov. 5, 1948-June 3, 2017

 

Bruce J. Cairney passed away Saturday afternoon June 3, 2017 in the Tufts Medical Center in Boston after a long illness, he was 68. Bruce was born in Everett on November 5, 1948 one of three children of the late John & Myrtle (Dunn) Cairney Jr.

Bruce was raised and educated in Malden. He was a graduate of Malden High School Class of 1967. In June of 1968 Bruce joined the US Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. Bruce received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal W/2 Bronze Service Stars: Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device. He was later discharged at  Ft. Carson, Colorado in June of 1971, after attaining the rank of Specialist 2nd Class.

Bruce & Beverly AKA B & B were married in Pueblo, CO in 1971 and would spend the next 46 years together as an inseparable couple, they did everything together. Bruce took employment with the Wonder Bread Company and later with the UTT Distribution Company delivering Wise Potato Chips for many years. He later worked with the Malden DPW with the Parks and Recreation Department, until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Irish American Club in Malden. As a couple, Bruce & Beverly enjoyed snow skiing & whitewater rafting. They especially loved their cruises, sometimes taking multiple trips in one year.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife Beverly M. (James) Cairney of forty six years. Loving brother-in-law of Walter Brooks of Wilmington. He was the uncle of several nieces & nephews & grand nieces and nephews.

Bruce was predeceased by his sister’s, Nancy Brooks and Mary Pesce.

Relatives and friends are welcome to a Memorial Gathering that will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 4-8PM. Bruce’s cremains will be placed in the Woodlawn Columbarium at a later time.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Bruce’s memory may be made to the New England Home for the Deaf, 154-160 Water St., Danvers, MA 01923.
