A. "Trudy" Blomerth
Gertrude A. (Damon) Blomerth, “Trudy”, passed away on Saturday,
Dec 11 in Somerville. Trudy was born in Malden in 1931, the
daughter of Ralph and Harriet Damon. She was raised in Malden
and graduated from Malden High School with the Class of 1949.
She then attended Fischer Jr. College where she studied to
become a secretary. She went on to work at the Malden Hospital
as a Medical Secretary. There she helped develop the coding
system at the hospital that they used for years and was
responsible for deciphering the doctor’s notes.
In 1953, Trudy married her sweetheart, Frank N. Blomerth. The
two settled down in Medford to raise their family. The two
shared 63 years of marriage until Francis’s passing in 2017.
Trudy left working at the hospital to help with her husband’s
jewelry business. She was an active member of the Centre United
Methodist Church, and was a former Rainbow Girl at the church.
She taught Sunday School there, and assisted with the church
archives. Trudy was an animal lover her entire life and she had
many special pets including Twinkle, Cassidy, Missy, Dillon,
Slinky, and Heidi , and she leaves behind her turtle, ET, who is
30 years old and is well loved. She was an avid crafter all her
life and enjoyed making things by hand, including quilting,
knitting, crocheting, sewing, and bunka. The family still has
all the crafts she gave them over the years. Trudy was also a
great artist and we have many paintings that she did over the
years. In addition, she also loved to read and was always
surrounded by her books.
She is survived by her children, Lynne E. Mulhern and Longtime
companion Jeff Smith of VT, Scott C. Blomerth and wife Robyn of
Revere, Janice L. Blomerth-Craigen and husband Bob of Malden,
and Leanna D. Fleming of NH, her brother, Ralph Damon Jr. of
Medford, her grandchildren Sandra Napoli and Megan Lavoie, and
her great grandchildren, Audrey, Andrew, and Trevor.
Trudy was preceded in death by her husband Frank, and her
brother, Merrill Damon.
Funeral services will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule

The family would also like to extend a special thank you to her
caregiver Esther, the VNA Senior Center at Highland in
Somerville, and Care Dimensions for taking such great care of
her when she needed it the most.
