Francis N. "Frank" Blomerth

Francis N. “Frank” Blomerth of Medford passed away Sunday evening April 9, 2017 , with his loving family at his side, he was 91. Frank was born in Malden on May 17, 1925 one of eight children of Carl V. & Marcella A. (Riggs) Blomerth.

Frank was educated in the Malden school system. When he was old enough he joined the US Army in June of 1943. He saw action in Rhineland, Germany. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was later discharged in March of 1946 as a Private First Class.

“I came out of the service and got a postcard in the mail,” Frank recalled.” It said I could go to watch making school. So I went.” Frank learned to fix watches and grandfather clocks, and repair jewelry at the New England Watch School, formerly on Newbury St. in Boston. He took employment with the Wadland's Jewelry Store  in Melrose.

Frank started working for the Wadland’s son, Philip, in 1952. The following year Trudy married the young watchmaker in 1953 and the couple moved to Medford and raised four children. They were married for 63 years.

Frank & Trudy later bought the store in the 1970’s. The couple worked together for many years. They later cut back on the hours that the store was opened instead of retiring. They later closed the store for good, in December of 2004, but continued to do work out of their home in Medford.

Frank loved his family and also enjoyed going out in his big canoe on Fosters Pond. He loved to work on word puzzles and take long nature walks along the Audubon with Trudy, in Ipswich and Plum Island. They enjoyed bird watching and all of the great outdoors.

Frank is survived by his loving wife, Trudy A. (Damon) Blomerth. He was the devoted father of Lynne E. Mulhern and her longtime companion Jeff Smith of VT, Scott C. Blomerth and his wife Robyn of Revere, Janice L. Blomerth-Craigen and her husband Bob of Malden and Leanna D. Fleming of NH. Frank was the cherished grandfather of Sandra L. Napoli of Medford and Megan B. Lavoie of FL, great-grandfather of Audrey, Andrew and Trevor Lavoie.

He was predeceased by seven siblings, the late Marcella Cusson, Irene Garfield, Dorothea Chellis, Carl, Edward and Sheldon, Virginia Blomerth.

Funeral services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 11AM. Interment to follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
