About Us

The Weir Funeral Home is an independently owned, family funeral home. We have been in business for over 100 years, since 1896. We are a member of the International Order of the Golden Rule, The National Funeral Directors Association, and the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association. We take pride in the quality of our work, our professionalism, and our appearance. We have a spacious, clean, well-lit establishment, which can accommodate as many as four funerals at once. We have a full time  staff of three.
Donald E. MacCuish, the owner, was once an apprentice at the Weir Funeral Home. He grew up in the Maplewood section of Malden.  Following his apprenticeship, he went to work as a funeral director at the Nickerson Funeral Home in Chatham, MA. After the death of Colin Dennis, the son-in law of founder Henry Weir, Donald purchased the business from his estate. It is Donald's vision and leadership that has helped to make the Weir Funeral Home into what it is today and his compassion that sets an example for others to follow.

Kevin B. Cunningham

Kevin B. Cunningham has been working in the funeral profession for over 35 years and has been a dedicated member of our staff as a Funeral Director for over  20 years. He was a graduate of the New England Institute.  Kevin recently performed extensive work with the WWII Memorial Campaign and personally oversaw the collection of those from his hometown of Stoneham who helped our country fight in WWII.  He is experienced, knowledgeable, and a valuable member of our staff.
Eric W. MacCuish joined the firm in 1995.  He soon completed his apprenticeship and graduated from Mt. Ida College before passing the National and State exams.   With the retirement of his father, Eric has assumed the management of the day to day operations of the business.  He and his wife Jennifer live in Malden, raising their family.  He is a Notary Public and has been active with the Malden Kiwanis Club, serving on their board for many years and recently completing a term as President of the Club.

In December of 2004, Daniel J. DePiano joined our staff.  Dan has been working in the funeral industry since 1999.  After high school, he began working towards his Applied Science in Funeral Service degree at the F.I.N.E. Mortuary College in Westwood, MA.  He worked as an apprentice for a funeral home in North Chelmsford, MA while attending mortuary college. After his graduation in 2001, he became a funeral director and continued working until he joined us here at the Weir Funeral Home in late 2004.  In June of 2010, Dan participated in volunteer work with the Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk effort sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  The organization's aim is to help raise awareness that people trying to cope with depression have resources and outlets to help deal with their feelings and emotions.
